The International Exhibition, “CRAFTHUB: Investigating Craft Practices Across Europe,” is now open!

The International Craft Fair, “CRAFTHUB: Investigating Craft Practices Across Europe,” has begun!

On Wednesday, June 7th, the city was filled with positive energy and art enthusiasts. The opening of the exhibition provided an excellent opportunity for over 200 people to explore the works of craftspeople from across Europe and be inspired by their unique crafts.

Arts and crafts have the power to unite individuals from diverse fields and create a space for the mutual exchange of ideas and experiences. In collaboration with the Islahane Cultural Centre – formerly known as the School of Arts & Crafts Hamidier, we at the OECON Group are proud to support this endeavor through the European Crafthubeu project.

The journey of creation will continue until June 21st, 2023.

Join us on a guided tour of “Islahane: The School of Arts of the Past Meets the Crafts of Today” to discover the art of yesteryear.
Tour Dates: June 14th & 21st, 2023.

A few words about Islahane:
The building, known by various names such as Islahane, Hamidieh Arts and Professions Building, or Midat Pasha Polytechnic, stands as a testament to its significance as the city’s first orphanage and technical school complex during Ottoman rule.

Today, its interior preserves and showcases parts of its own history and the individuals who learned new “arts” within its walls, as well as the contemporary crafts of today’s artists. Located in a neighborhood on the “frontier,” its establishment offers us an opportunity to unravel the intricate tapestry of its history, search for traces of the past, and listen to the stories of both the neighborhood’s past and present, with Islahane now serving as a multifaceted cultural hub!

Special thanks to Vasilis Karkatselis and Evanthia Stavrou She/Her for curating, and to Sofia Christoforidou and Maria Karagianni for their participation.

Don’t miss out on this chance to discover the enchantment of arts and crafts!
